What Devilman spinoffs are there?

One hero, a dozen afterlives, sequels, anthologies, crossovers, and a gaiden from 2023.

The 1972 manga is five volumes, but the Devilman shelf keeps growing around it: Nagai’s own sequels and side stories, other artists’ continuations, and anniversary remixes. Two of them, Violence Jack and Devilman Lady, have their own pages in this archive. The rest of the family is documented here.

NAGAI’S OWN CONTINUATIONS

1979–2020
Shin Devilman · 1979–81
Five time-travel episodes from Shōnen Magazine Special, drawn by Nagai, the “lost years” that later editions fold into the main story. It has its own page in this archive.
Devilman Saga · 2014–20
Nagai’s own long continuation, serialized in Shogakukan’s Big Comic from December 2014 to March 2020 and collected in 13 volumes: a 2025-set story of murals, ancient technology, and the old war returning. Billed on its completion as the series’ final chapter.
Demon Knight · 2007–09
Nagai’s prequel manga, serialized in Kodansha’s Mandala from 2007 to 2009, the franchise reaching backward instead of forward.

OTHER HANDS, SAME HELL

1999–2023
Neo Devilman · 1999–2000
A three-volume anthology from Kodansha: guest artists taking their own passes at Nagai’s world, published across the turn of the millennium.
Amon: The Darkside of the Devilman · 1999–2004
Yu Kinutani’s six-volume darkside telling, centered on the demon Amon himself. Adapted in 2000 as the pay-per-view anime Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman.
Devilman Grimoire (Devilman G) · 2012–13
Rui Takato’s five-volume retelling for the 40th anniversary, in Akita Shoten’s Champion Red, a brighter, stranger Devilman built for a new generation. Published in English by Seven Seas (2017–18).
Devilman vs. Hades · 2012–14
By Go Nagai and Team Moon, three volumes: Devilman descends to wage war in the underworld itself. Seven Seas published it in English in 2018.
Devilman Gaiden: Ningen Senki · 2023
The newest branch: Fujihiko Hosono’s gaiden in Kodansha’s Monthly Young Magazine, January to June 2023, proof the shelf is still being added to, fifty years on.
The crossovers
Mazinger Z vs. Devilman (film, 1973), Devilman vs. Getter Robo (2010), and Cyborg 009 VS Devilman (2015): Devilman has been crossing into other heroes’ worlds since the year after he was born.
