What Devilman video games are there?
Two of his own, a crossover, and a long cameo career, all of it Japan-first.
Devilman was a magazine and television hero of the 1970s, so his games arrived late and few: a Famicom title from Namco in 1989 and a PlayStation title from Bandai in 2000, with a Super Famicom crossover in between. Neither dedicated game was released in the West, for decades, Devilman in games meant importing, exactly as with his books.
THE GAMES
1989–2000
Devilman · Famicom · April 25, 1989
Namco’s (Namcot’s) shot at the hero, seventeen years after the manga: Devilman center-frame on the box, Sirene in blue above him, and Ryo, Akira, and Miki watching from the corner, the whole cast on one cartridge box.
Devilman · PlayStation · April 13, 2000
Bandai’s PlayStation Devilman, eleven years later and in the polygonal era: the cover trades Nagai’s ink for a computer-rendered Devilman, wings spread over a white field.
CB Chara Wars · Super Famicom · 1992
Devilman also appeared among Nagai’s creations in CB Chara Wars: Ushinawareta Gag, a Super Famicom crossover built on the super-deformed comedy versions of the Dynamic heroes.
The cameo career
Devilman later crossed into the mobile game Super Robot Wars DD (2019), standing in formation beside Mazinger Z, the two 1972 brothers, still sharing a roster nearly fifty years on.
