What Hokuto no Ken anime came after the TV series?
The television series proper ran from October 11, 1984 to February 18, 1988: 109 episodes adapting the manga through its first great arc, then Hokuto no Ken 2, 43 episodes more, ending with roughly the manga’s chapter 210 of 245. It was never the end of the anime. The 1986 film, made while the show aired, compressed the Shin and Raoh material into a theatrical feature. In 2003, New Fist of the North Star adapted Buronson’s 1996 prose novel in three OVA episodes, the first screen Hokuto of the new century.
The 25th anniversary brought the Legends of the True Savior cycle: three films and two OVAs between 2006 and 2008 retelling the first era from fresh angles, including Yuria’s and Kenshiro’s own accounts, alongside the television spinoff Raoh Gaiden: Ten no Haoh (2008). Comedy took its turn with the chibi DD Hokuto no Ken adaptations and the gag series Ichigo Aji.
And the story is not closed: on September 13, 2023, the manga’s exact 40th anniversary, a new television anime was announced from TMS Entertainment, a CGI production directed by Hiroshi Maeda with music by Yuki Hayashi, presented as the definitive adaptation and premiering in 2026.
