What is Dai Dark?
Same hand, same dirt, new universe: Hayashida took the Hole’s energy into deep space.
Six months after Dorohedoro ended, Q Hayashida opened her next serial in the same magazine that had hosted the ending. Dai Dark, literally Great Dark, began in Monthly Shonen Sunday on 12 March 2019, and it is the living continuation of everything the Dorohedoro shelf documents: the grime, the banter, the found family, rebuilt for deep space.
THE PREMISE
A boy and his skeletonZaha Sanko
A teenage boy travelling the dark of space with a price on his skeleton: a rumour says whoever takes his bones will be granted their heart’s desire, up to ruling the universe. Sanko would like to be left alone. The universe disagrees.
Avakian
His partner: a skeletal companion with dark powers of his own. The double act, one cheerful boy and one dry monster, is the direct heir of Kaiman and Nikaido’s counter service at the Hungry Bug.
THE RUN
2019 to todayIn Japan
Volume 1 arrived on 12 November 2019. The run reached nine volumes by October 2025. In the summer of 2025 Hayashida took a two-issue pause to work on a collected volume, returned that October, and took the magazine’s cover for its November 2025 issue.
In English
Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the English edition: volume 1 on 27 April 2021, a box set of volumes 1 to 4 with a double-sided poster in November 2023, and a Deluxe Edition line of hardcover omnibuses announced in 2025, the first gathering volumes 1 to 3 in March 2026.

Dorohedoro is a mystery that tightens for eighteen years. Dai Dark is a voyage that wanders on purpose. Readers who loved the Hole’s texture more than its plot mechanics may find the successor the more comfortable ship.
