What is Elden Ring Nightreign?

Elden Ring, rebuilt for three friends and three nights: the studio’s first co-operative headline game.

Elden Ring Nightreign was revealed at The Game Awards in December 2024 and released on May 30, 2025. It is a standalone co-operative game directed by Junya Ishizaki, a designer across Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Dark Souls III and Elden Ring, in which teams of three Nightfarers drop into Limveld, a procedurally remixed relative of Limgrave, and survive three in-game days inside a shrinking ring before facing a Nightlord. George R. R. Martin was not involved; the mythology is inherited, not extended by him.

The market answered immediately: two million units in 24 hours, 3.5 million in five days, over five million by July 2025. A downloadable expansion, The Forsaken Hollows, followed on December 4, 2025.

The spin-off’s key art inverts the parent game’s: night swirling down over one raised sword. Same palette, new grammar, a roguelike wearing a masterpiece’s clothes.
A designer’s directorial debut
Ishizaki joined the studio as a designer on the first Dark Souls. Nightreign is the supervisory generation’s own headline game, Miyazaki’s bench, directing.
