What is Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name?

The game that answers the question Yakuza 6 left hanging: what was Kiryu doing while everyone thought he was dead?

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name launched worldwide on November 9, 2023. After faking his death, Kiryu works as an agent, codename Joryu, for the Daidoji faction, the shadowy organization sheltering him. A mission gone wrong drags him through Sotenbori and Yokohama, and back toward the people Infinite Wealth will reunite him with.

THE ERASED MANLike a Dragon Gaiden bridged Kiryu’s two retirements in a single short, sharp chapter.

THE SHAPE OF IT

A bridge, built deliberately
Real-time, as a counterweight
Gaiden is an action brawler, Yakuza and Agent fighting styles, released the same season its RPG sibling was loading. RGG Studio now runs both genres in parallel and uses the side stories to keep the brawler alive.
Made alongside Infinite Wealth
The two games were developed concurrently by the same team, Gaiden as the connective tissue: it explains Kiryu's decade, and its final chapters run directly into Infinite Wealth's opening.
The coliseum and the castle
Its Sotenbori is built around a pleasure-barge arena, and its side content, Akame's request network, is the studio's densest substory web per square meter.
