What is Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater?
Delta was announced in 2023 as the flagship of Konami's revival of the series after a long quiet period following the events covered on the post Kojima page in this shelf. Developed by Konami with support from Virtuos, it remakes Snake Eater scene for scene: the Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater, the Cobras, The Boss and the Shagohod, all re-performed visually while the original English and Japanese voice recordings are carried over, a decision that frames Delta as restoration as much as remake.
The changes are in the hands. A modern over the shoulder control scheme sits beside a legacy scheme modeled on the original, battle damage shows persistently on Snake's body, wounds and camouflage are visualized in far greater detail, and the survival systems, eating, treatment and camo index, are all retained rather than streamlined away. Extra modes nod to the series' playful side, including the return of the Snake vs Monkey crossover content on PlayStation.
Delta's existence reframes the earlier versions rather than replacing them. The 2004 original remains the design document, Subsistence the feature complete PlayStation 2 object, and the Master Collection version the accessible archive copy; Delta is the spectacle version, built for hardware the original team could not have used. Collectors now hold four generations of one mission.
Physically, Delta launched with standard and collector's editions varying by region, the Western collector's package built around a terrarium diorama of the tree frog scene, a SteelBook and replica goods, while Japanese editions followed Konami's own store patterns. As the first new Metal Gear release in years, its editions carry revival energy that the market priced in early.
This page is the shelf's marker for the series' new era: post Kojima, archival and remake led. Whether Delta leads to remakes of the other games or to new entries is the open question the Master Collection page also tracks.
