What is Pikmin Bloom?
Pikmin Bloom launched for phones in late 2021, a collaboration between Nintendo and Niantic, the studio behind Pokemon Go. There is no ship to repair and no planet to escape. Your steps hatch and grow Pikmin from seedlings, expeditions send them to fetch fruit and new seedlings from places you have actually walked, and planting mode blooms flowers along your real route, turning a commute into a shared garden other walkers can see.
Its Pikmin wear the games philosophy. Decor Pikmin collect costumes from the kinds of places they were found, a chef hat from a restaurant, a sticker from a post office, a miniature train from a station, so your squad becomes a diary of your own neighbourhood. Weekly step challenges, community days, and postcards from your Pikmin travels keep the loop social without competition, timers gentler than any mainline entry.
Bloom is the series second digital only chapter and an important one for the Library to record, because it reframed Pikmin as a wellness companion for an audience that may never play a strategy game. It also proved the characters appeal is portable across genres: gardening, strategy, platforming, and now walking, with the same sprouts working in every register.
There is little physical to collect from Bloom directly, which again is its documentary value: its traces live in the merchandise waves and real world event goods around it, and in the way Pikmin 4, released after Bloom, welcomed the walkers home with the friendliest design in series history. The garden and the strategy game now advertise each other.
