What is Pollyanna 2?

Pollyanna 2 followed from Hobonichi in October 2021, a year and a half after the first volume, with Hobonichi's store selling from October 21 and general release on October 28. It collects over 40 works on the Mother series, against the first volume's 35 creators.

The roster widened in telling directions. Toby Fox returned. OMOCAT, creator of Omori, a game openly descended from Mother's lineage, joined, a student contributing to the master's tribute book. Taiyo Matsumoto, one of Japan's most respected manga artists, and humorist Koji Kumeta also appear, and Shigesato Itoi himself contributes an essay, the only volume's authorial voice from inside the work.

As objects the two Pollyanna volumes form the Hobonichi MOTHER Project's popular shelf: less monumental than the Complete Scripts, more personal, and the easiest entry point into the Project's print output for a new collector.

Together they also document something no sales figure can: the professional class of Japanese comics treating a trio of modest-selling RPGs as shared cultural inheritance.
