What is Sakamoto Days?
Sakamoto Days is a manga written and drawn by Yuto Suzuki, serialised in Weekly Shonen Jump since November 21, 2020. Its hero, Taro Sakamoto, was the most feared hitman of his generation, then fell in love, retired, married, gained weight and settled into running a small convenience store. When the underworld puts a price on his head, the series sets its engine running: assassins arrive at the store, and the unremarkable looking shopkeeper dismantles them with whatever is on the shelves.
The comedy and the action are the same skill. Sakamoto fights with shop goods, household objects and a body that briefly remembers its prime, and Suzuki stages the set pieces as clean, readable choreography in which the joke, a weaponised umbrella stand, a refrigerator door used as a shield, never costs the fight its stakes. A supporting cast grows around the store: Shin, a telepathic former apprentice, Lu, the heir to a crime family, and Sakamoto's wife Aoi, whose no killing rule for her husband is the series' moral centre and its running tactical problem.
The manga built from a one shot, Sakamoto in the magazine's orbit in 2019, into one of Jump's anchor action titles of the 2020s, collected in tankobon volumes by Shueisha from 2021. Its tone separates it from the magazine's darker hits: the stakes are lethal and the body count real, but the series' warmth toward its cast and its shopkeeper domesticity are the point, not the seasoning.
An anime adaptation by TMS Entertainment began in January 2025, bringing the series to a global streaming audience, and it is covered in its own page in this section. For the physical story, the debut issue of Weekly Shonen Jump carrying chapter one, 2020 No. 51, and the Jump covers the series has earned are the collector objects, documented in the Jump covers page already live in this section and in the debut and Gear 5 page in this batch.
