What is Silent Hill f?
Silent Hill f was announced in the October 2022 revival showcase and released worldwide in September 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. The setting breaks the series' geography for the first time in a main entry: Ebisugaoka, a fictional Japanese mountain town modeled on Kanayama in Gifu prefecture, in the 1960s, where schoolgirl Hinako Shimizu watches her town dissolve into flowering corruption.
The writing hire defined expectations: Ryukishi07, creator of the Higurashi and Umineko visual novels, is a specialist in small town dread and unreliable girlhood, and f is built on his stated theme for the game, finding beauty inside terror. Creature and world design lean organic: blossoms splitting skin, scarecrow fields, shrine ritual and Shinto imagery replace the industrial rust that defined the American town's Otherworld.
Akira Yamaoka returned to compose for the fog world's sound, sharing musical duties with Kensuke Inage for the Otherworld material, tying the new entry audibly to the series' roots even as everything visual moved. The combat leans toward close range weapons and evasion over firearms, in keeping with its period and place.
As the first wholly new mainline Silent Hill in over a decade, f carries the weight the remake set down: proof that the revival is a future and not only a restoration. Its Japanese setting also closes a circle this shelf has tracked from the start, a Japanese team's horror, filtered for 25 years through an imaginary America, finally coming home.
Editions followed the modern pattern, standard and deluxe across platforms with regional packaging, and Japanese copies sit naturally at the center of a game's own home market for once. This page will grow as the game's documentation, guides and art books settle into the record.
