What is Studio Gaga?
Studio Gaga is the name of Kentaro Miura's production studio: the team of assistants who worked under him on Berserk at his workplace in Japan. Japanese manga studios are usually credited simply under the lead artist's name, but Miura's team took a public identity because, late in his career, he began publishing work under the studio's name itself, with his own role listed as producer and originator.
That work was Duranki, launched in 2019 in Young Animal Zero, where the credits told the new story plainly: original work and direction by Miura, art by Studio Gaga. The arrangement let Miura compose, design and supervise while the team he had trained executed finished pages in his style, a structure he described as both a practical response to Berserk's demands and a way to develop his assistants into artists who could carry a book.
After Miura's death in May 2021, the studio became central to the largest question in manga: whether Berserk could continue. Hakusensha's June 2022 announcement answered it with the structure Miura had built. Berserk resumed under Studio Gaga's drawing, supervised by Kouji Mori, his friend since high school, using the story's planned course as Miura had related it to Mori and to his editors and team over the years.
For readers and collectors, the credit line is the thing to watch. New Berserk chapters and volumes are Studio Gaga works under Mori's supervision, not newly discovered Miura pages, and editions and listings should be read that way. The Library's Berserk section tracks the continuation's volumes; this entry records the studio itself, which is Miura's most practical legacy: he did not just draw a style, he taught it.
