What is the difference between Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald?
Pokémon Emerald, released in Japan on September 16, 2004 and in North America on May 1, 2005, is Hoenn's third version, and its changes run deeper than the usual retune. The story now entangles both Team Magma and Team Aqua, and both Groudon and Kyogre can be caught, with Rayquaza, the box mascot, standing between them as the plot's resolution.
The personnel changed. Wallace, Sootopolis's gym leader in Ruby and Sapphire, is Hoenn's Champion in Emerald, and his place at the gym is taken by his mentor, Juan. A new character, Scott, crosses the player's path throughout the journey, recruiting for the facility he is building.
The presentation stepped back up: Pokémon sprites are animated again in battle, as they had been in Crystal and had not been in Ruby and Sapphire. And after the credits, Scott's project opens as the Battle Frontier, an entire post-game island of battle facilities that replaced Ruby and Sapphire's single Battle Tower.
Emerald is the generation's definitive Hoenn in almost every respect players enumerate, and it sold 6.32 million copies doing it.
