What is the difference between the One-Punch Man webcomic and the remake?
Same author, same story, two different comics, still running side by side.
The webcomic is ONE alone: his story, his rough drawings, posted free on his own site since 2009. The remake is the same story rewritten and redrawn by Yusuke Murata for Shueisha since 2012. The remake is not a straight copy: it expands scenes, adds subplots, and introduces material, such as the martial arts tournament of the Super Fight arc, that the webcomic does not have.
SIDE BY SIDE
The two textsStatus
Both are unfinished and both continue. The webcomic stood at 155 chapters as of July 2025; the remake’s online edition passed 246 chapters in October 2026, with 37 print volumes. The remake is years behind the webcomic’s story and catching up slowly, because it keeps stopping to redraw itself.
Story order
The remake reorders and stretches the original’s events, and rearranges chapter contents again when chapters are collected into volumes. Some webcomic scenes are split across remake chapters; some remake chapters merge back together in print.
Three numberings
A remake chapter can carry three different numbers: its online number, its Tonari no Young Jump site number, and its place in the collected volume. Fan references track all three, because citing only one will confuse anyone holding a different edition.
Which one is canon
The print remake is the commercial text: it is what the anime adapts and what gets translated. But the webcomic is ahead, so the original remains the only place to read where the story is going.
