What Japanese guides did the Switch Zeldas get?
Breath of the Wild closed one era and opened another. Its Japanese guides are a Shogakukan official guidebook, the last great Wonder Life style volume of the line, and a Famitsu Perfect guide from Kadokawa: two books for the biggest Zelda launch ever, where the Wii era would have produced four.
Tears of the Kingdom changed the guard entirely. Kadokawa published both Japanese books, a Perfect guide and a separate, larger Complete guide, two distinct volumes rather than editions of one. And one negative in this census is worth stating plainly: there is no Shogakukan official guidebook for Tears of the Kingdom. The label that began the story in 1992 does not appear.
Echoes of Wisdom continued the new order with a single Dengeki Complete guide in December 2024, and again no Shogakukan volume. The Switch era's Japanese Zelda shelf belongs to the Kadokawa group and its Dengeki and Famitsu brands.
For collectors the shift matters because it changes the hunt: Switch era Japanese Zelda guides are fewer, bigger, and concentrated in one publishing house, a consolidated market replacing the four way races of 2003 and 2011.
