When did Slam Dunk get a digital edition?

June 2, 2025, thirty five years after print: Inoue held the series off ebooks until he could tell readers how to read it.

For thirty five years Slam Dunk was a print-only manga. Its first official digital edition launched on June 2, 2025 across major ebook platforms, using the 20-volume shinsoban reorganization, after a surprise announcement from Inoue's official account on May 22.

Inoue used the announcement to teach his own page geometry. He explained that he drew Slam Dunk on B4 Kent paper, with two-page spreads composed on B3 sheets laid sideways, because the series was designed in the print era as pairs of facing pages. A large tablet in landscape mode, he suggested, comes closest to the original manuscript experience, and the digital files show the inner margins near the binding that print editions hide.

That a creator of Inoue's generation treated the digital release as an occasion for reading instructions tells you the holdout was about the object, not the market. Print copies remain the collected form; the ebook is the reading copy he finally approved.
