Which Weekly Shōnen Jump issues have Hokuto no Ken on the cover?

The honest answer is a floor, not a census. Here is the floor, verified.

Hokuto no Ken ran in Weekly Shōnen Jump for 245 issues, and across five years it was one of the magazine’s faces. But Jump covers of the early 1980s were ensemble pieces, several series sharing one cover, and no complete, publicly archived cover-by-cover census of the era exists to check against. This page therefore documents only the appearances that can be verified against the issues themselves, and says so plainly.

The anchors are firm. The series debuted on the cover of issue 41, 1983 (cover-dated September 26, 1983), with the first chapter leading the magazine in color. The combined New Year issue 1–2, 1985 carried Hokuto as a cover feature. And on September 5, 1986, Jump published something rarer than a cover: Hokuto no Ken Special: All About the Man, an entire special issue of the magazine devoted to this one series, pilot reprint, interviews, biographies and all.

Collectors should treat any claimed complete list of Hokuto Jump covers with suspicion until it is shown issue by issue. This archive will extend the list below the same way the entries above were earned: one verified issue at a time.

VERIFIED COVER APPEARANCES

Checked against the issues
Weekly Shōnen Jump 1983, issue 41
The debut. Cover feature and lead color chapter, on sale September 13, 1983, cover-dated September 26. The single most collected Hokuto magazine: the first appearance of Kenshiro in a weekly magazine.
Weekly Shōnen Jump 1985, issues 1–2
The combined New Year double issue, a Hokuto cover feature at the height of the first anime year, when the series shared the magazine’s face with the other pillars of mid-80s Jump.
Hokuto no Ken Special: All About the Man, 1986
A special issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump given over entirely to one series, cover-dated September 5, 1986: pilot reprint, creator interviews and complete character biographies. Not a regular issue, but the era’s clearest measure of the series’ standing.

WHY THE FULL COUNT IS HARD

The state of the record
Ensemble covers
Early-80s Jump covers typically show several series at once. Whether an issue counts as a Hokuto cover depends on a definition the census-taker has to state, and most lists never do.
No public cover archive
Shueisha has not published a complete cover archive for these years, and surviving issue-by-issue documentation is scattered across the collector market. This page grows only by verified issues.
