Who created One-Punch Man? Meet ONE.

A pen name, a homepage, and the most successful self-published debut in manga history.

ONE is the pen name of the author who created One-Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100. He was born in Niigata and grew up in Saitama prefecture, the coincidence that named his hero. He has told interviewers that his parents bought him Crayon Shin-chan as a child in Niigata, and that he immediately began copying its drawings and inventing his own characters. He has been doing the second part ever since.

THE AUTHOR, ON THE RECORD

What is documented
The self-published route
ONE skipped the magazine ladder entirely. After unsuccessful submissions, he published One-Punch Man on his own homepage from 2009, and the audience, 7.9 million hits by 2012, made the industry come to him.
Story only, by choice
On the remake, ONE writes and Murata draws. On Mob Psycho 100 he did both. The division on One-Punch Man is not a limitation; it is the arrangement ONE has kept for fourteen years and hundreds of chapters.
Versus (2022)
His later series Versus, drawn by Kyotaro Azuma and serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius from November 26, 2022, won the shonen category of the 49th Kodansha Manga Award in 2025.
Bug Ego (2023)
Bug Ego, drawn by Kiyoto Shitara, began in Weekly Young Jump in April 2023, a return to the magazine family that made him famous, this time as an established name.
