Who is Yuto Suzuki, and how did he create Sakamoto Days?

Yuto Suzuki is the manga artist who created Sakamoto Days for Weekly Shonen Jump in 2020, developing it from his 2019 one shot Sakamoto, after earlier short work including the Garaku one shot that won magazine recognition.

Yuto Suzuki is a Japanese manga artist whose career runs through the standard Jump apprenticeship: short stories, magazine prizes and one shots tested in front of readers before a serialisation is granted. His one shot Garaku drew attention for its action drawing, and the decisive try out came in 2019 with Sakamoto, a Jump GIGA one shot built around the same retired hitman premise that the series would expand the following year.

The serialisation began in Weekly Shonen Jump in November 2020, an unusually direct promotion from one shot to weekly series, and Suzuki has carried writing and drawing duties throughout, on the magazine's demanding weekly cycle. Author comments in the magazine and volumes sketch a working life familiar to Jump readers: deadlines, assistants, film watching for action reference, and a stated love of the action cinema the series constantly quotes in its choreography and panel staging.

His drawing is the series' signature. Suzuki favours clean contours, strong silhouettes and uncluttered backgrounds during fights, so that improvised weapons and body positions read instantly at magazine speed, then spends detail where the comedy lives, in the store's shelves, packaging and neighbourhood texture. The contrast between the convenience store's lovingly stocked ordinariness and the assassin world's hardware is drawn, not just written.

For collectors, Suzuki authorship is documented in the usual Jump paper: the one shot's magazine appearance, author comments and sketches in the tankobon, and cover art across the run, where his colour work gives Sakamoto and the cast their fixed palettes. Japanese volumes carry the bonus material most completely, and the first volume's early printings are the standard author focused anchor of a Sakamoto shelf.
