Why does Yusuke Murata redraw One-Punch Man chapters?

Because he can, and because the online edition lets him treat a published chapter as a draft.

One-Punch Man is published online first, and digital pages can be swapped after release. Murata uses that freedom more aggressively than any major artist working: whole fights have been drawn, published, read by millions, and then drawn again from the beginning, sometimes more than once.

THE DOCUMENTED CASES

Chapters with more than one life
Phoenix Man vs Child Emperor
The fight that ran as online chapters 101 to 103 was heavily revised after publication, then revised again for the volume 22 tankobon: the book version adds Saitama to the scene, a conversation with Zombieman, and Phoenix Man surviving, which the Neo Heroes arc now depends on.
The Ninja Village opening
Chapter 193 was redrawn in 2024 and then redrawn again on January 22, 2025, a third version, with around 15 chapters of the arc behind it in line for the same treatment. Most of Murata’s 2024 was spent on revisions rather than new chapters.
The reader’s problem
Redrawn chapters are not officially published in English, so English readers meet continuity gaps the Japanese audience does not. The anime inherited the tangle too: season 3, episode 9, in December 2025, adapted the superseded first version of the Phoenix Man fight.
His position
In an author’s note dated December 20, 2017, Murata wrote that he would not change how he works. The redraws are not emergencies; they are the process, and the print volumes remain the settled text.
