The Fódlan Games
Fódlan is the Switch continent. Three Houses (2019) put the player in a professor's chair at the Garreg Mach Monastery, choosing which of three noble houses to teach, and then, five years on, to fight. Its musou spin-off Three Hopes (2022) retells the same war down a different road. Between them, Fódlan moved the series' center of gravity from the battlefield to the calendar, the classroom, and the tea table.

WHAT FODLAN CHANGED
The social machineThree Houses is the fullest realization of the post-Awakening series: supports and pairings, an explorable home base, and a calendar of teaching, training, and shared meals wrapped around the battles. Where Awakening bolted a social layer onto a war game, Three Houses makes the social layer the war's cause: you fight, in the second half, the students you taught in the first, on whichever side of the lines you chose. The four routes and the Cindered Shadows side story made it the series' most replayed structure, and its success reset expectations for every entry after, including 2023's deliberate throwback, Engage.
