The Ranma ½ Anime (1989–1992)

Studio Deen’s 161 episodes in two series, plus three films and twelve OVAs: the version that carried Ranma around the world.

The adaptation came in two blocks: Ranma ½ (episodes 1–18) premiered on Fuji TV on April 15, 1989, and was relaunched as Ranma ½ Nettohen (episodes 19–161), which ran to September 25, 1992. Studio Deen produced both. The films followed the classic pattern: Big Trouble in Nekonron, China (November 2, 1991, 77 minutes), Nihao My Concubine (August 1, 1992), and the short Team Ranma vs. the Legendary Phoenix (August 20, 1994).

The OVA line ran from 1993 to 1996, the six-episode series, the two-part Special and the three-part Super, and then once more, sixteen years later: Nightmare! Incense of Spring Sleep was made for the 2008 It’s a Rumic World exhibition. A live-action television special, produced by Nikkatsu, aired on Nippon TV on December 9, 2011.
