The Remastered Project: Tales at Thirty

For its 30th anniversary, Bandai Namco stopped only waiting for a new Tales and started reissuing the old ones, four remasters in two years, with the classics next.

The Remastered Project, launched in October 2024 under series producer Yusuke Tomizawa, is Bandai Namco’s programme to bring the back catalogue to current hardware. Its releases so far trace the project’s own learning curve, recent 3D titles first, then a declared turn toward the classics.

THE RELEASES SO FAR

2025 to 2026
Tales of Graces f Remastered, January 2025
The project’s first title: the PS3 expansion of the Wii original, carried to Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox and PC with modern conveniences, destination markers, encounter toggles, the quality-of-life layer the Remastered Project treats as its signature.
Tales of Xillia Remastered, October 2025
The 15th-anniversary game remastered into the 30th: Xillia returned with its DLC catalogue folded in. Its sequel, Xillia 2, remains unremastered, the project’s most visible open file.
Tales of Berseria Remastered, February 2026
The third release, and the youngest game in the programme: proof the project is an availability policy, not a nostalgia order. Berseria’s remaster completed the Zestiria-Berseria pair on current hardware.
Tales of Eternia Remastered, October 16, 2026
Announced in a June 2026 Nintendo Direct for Switch and Switch 2: the project’s first 2D title and its oldest game yet, twenty-six years after the PS1 original, the turn toward the classics, delivered.

THE POLICY AND THE PRECEDENTS

How the project chooses
Feasibility over chronology
Tomizawa has been explicit about the method: remasters are chosen by feasibility and source-code availability, not by series order, and the announced direction from 2026 is older, classic entries. The queue is an engineering document before it is a fan ballot.
Before the project had a name
The programme formalized a practice already running: Vesperia’s Definitive Edition (2019) and Symphonia Remastered (2023) proved the market for full-content, dual-audio, all-platform Tales reissues. The Remastered Project is that proof turned into a schedule.
And a new game
Alongside the remasters, Bandai Namco has confirmed a brand-new Tales title is in development. Thirty years in, the series is doing both things at once: rebuilding its past in public, and keeping its future unannounced a little longer.
