Trails to Azure: Crossbell's conclusion
Trails to Azure (Ao no Kiseki) was released in Japan on September 29, 2011 for PSP. It continues Zero directly, players could import their Zero save, carrying over levels, items and the relationship choices the game had quietly been tracking, as Crossbell's bid for independence collides with the ambitions of both neighbouring empires and with the conspiracy the SSS uncovered in the first game. Where Zero is a detective novel, Azure is a political thriller that ends by rearranging the map of Zemuria; the Erebonia arc that follows is, in large part, the story of what Azure's ending does to the continent.
Azure's Western history mirrors its predecessor's: skipped in the 2010s while Falcom prioritised Cold Steel, translated by fans (the Geofront's edition arrived May 22, 2021), then released officially by NIS America on March 14, 2023 for PS4, Switch and PC, built on the Geofront script and on the enhanced Japanese Kai edition. The official release preserves a memorial: Geofront lead editor Daniel "KillScottKill" Tijerina died in October 2022, and NIS America kept his name in the credits and one of his treasure-chest messages in the final dungeon, in tribute. This Library records the Crossbell duology as the saga's centre of gravity, the two games that Cold Steel III onward simply assumes you have played.
