What Devil May Cry games came after 3?
Devil May Cry 4 (February 2008) handed the series to a second hero: Nero, a young knight of the Order of the Sword whose demonic right arm, the Devil Bringer, snatches enemies out of the air. Dante arrives as the apparent villain, becomes playable halfway with on-the-fly style switching the PlayStation 2 games never allowed, and the game sold over three million copies by 2016. Its Special Edition (2015) repeated the family ritual: Vergil, Lady and Trish, all playable.
Then the fork. DmC: Devil May Cry (2013), developed by Britain's Ninja Theory under Capcom's supervision, rebooted the series in an alternate universe: a dark-haired Dante, half angel and half demon, fighting through a shifting demon city called Limbo while the game aimed its satire at media and consumer culture. It reviewed well, 85 to 86 on Metacritic, but its continuation was abandoned, and the classic line resumed instead. Devil May Cry 5 (March 8, 2019) reunited Dante and Nero with a third hero, the frail summoner V, and became the series' best seller, at roughly ten million copies by the end of 2024, Special Edition included. Its own Special Edition (2020) completed the pattern one more time: Vergil, playable.
