What is Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition?

It is the PS3 version, complete and officially in English at last, and it is the default way to buy Vesperia on any modern platform.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition launched worldwide on January 11, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. Under the new name sits the expanded PlayStation 3 version of the game, the one Japan received in 2009, with Patty Fleur, the full-party Flynn and every added scene, skit and dungeon intact and officially localized for the first time.

The package respects both audiences. Players can choose English or Japanese voice acting, the resolution and performance step up from both earlier versions, and content that was downloadable extras in Japan is folded into the release. For Western fans who had spent a decade petitioning, importing or patching, the Definitive Edition closed the series' most famous open wound in a single release.

It also marks a quiet change in how the series treats the West. Earlier Tales localizations cut, renamed or skipped; the Definitive Edition instead sold completeness itself as the feature, and it worked. Vesperia's lifetime sales across versions passed two million, and the game's reputation as the classic to start with rests on this edition.

On the shelf, the Definitive Edition is the one physical modern release to own on Switch or PlayStation 4, while the Japanese PS3 box remains the historical document: the version that had everything first. The two boxes tell the whole story of this page and the last one between them.
