What is the Lunar Remastered Collection?
The 2025 restoration: both PlayStation remakes, one disc, and the series' designer back on the cover.
The Lunar Remastered Collection, published by GungHo Online Entertainment and announced on September 24, 2024, was released on April 18, 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. It restores the PlayStation versions of Silver Star Story Complete and Eternal Blue Complete, the first new edition of Eternal Blue in twenty-five years and the first time both games have shared a single release. Digital price was $49.99; physical editions ($54.99, through Amazon in North America and Clear River Games in Europe) carry reversible covers.
WHAT THE RESTORATION DOES
Classic or RemasteredTwo modes
Remastered mode presents both games in widescreen with high-definition pixel art and animated sequences, streamlined battle settings, and an optional relaxed inventory. Classic mode holds the PlayStation presentation, 4:3 frame, filters and all: the collection is an edition and an archive in one box.
A new English cast
Both games were re-dubbed entirely in English, joining the original Japanese audio; the Working Designs performances remain exclusive to the old discs. French and German subtitles were added, the series' first official European-language texts.
Kubooka on the cover
The physical edition's reversible sleeve carries two new key-art pieces drawn for the collection by Toshiyuki Kubooka, one per game: the original designer's hand on the restoration of his own work, thirty-three years on. Gematsu marked the release with a long Kubooka interview on the classic designs.
WHAT IT SETTLES
The version question, answered for nowThe PlayStation text wins
By restoring the 1998-2000 remakes rather than the Mega-CD originals, the collection canonizes Silver Star Story's warmer telling (the rewritten Ghaleon, the expanded Luna) as the series' public text. The 1992 originals remain, for now, period documents and collector's discs.
The gap it leaves
Walking School, Magic School, Legend, and Dragon Song are not included: the collection is a duology. The school stories remain Japan-only, and the census of what a complete Lunar shelf requires is unchanged by the rescue.
