Why Did the Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Take So Long?
When Konami announced Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars at Tokyo Game Show on September 16, 2022, it was the first new Suikoden release in a decade, scheduled for 2023. It arrived on March 6, 2025. The two missing years are this page: what was said, what was not, and what the extra time visibly bought.
THE ANNOUNCEMENT
Tokyo Game Show, September 16, 2022The remaster builds on the 2006 PlayStation Portable compilation of the two games, which had stayed in Japan. Its announced work: enhanced and redrawn backgrounds, redrawn character portraits, new and enhanced sound effects, a new world map system, and quality-of-life features including a fast-forward toggle for battles. The target platforms were PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, with a worldwide release in 2023.
THE DELAY
August 30, 2023On August 30, 2023, with the year running out, Konami announced the delay without a new date. The statement, in the part that matters, said the team had concluded that "additional time is needed to ensure the quality performance and gameplay experience our users deserve." No window replaced the lost one. For a series whose last decade had been cancellations and silence, an undated delay read to many players as a quiet shelving, in the year when Eiyuden Chronicle, the fan-funded successor, was approaching release without its own creator.
