What is the final season of My Hero Academia?
Eleven episodes to land a ten-year story, then one more for the book chapter.
The eighth season of the anime was billed simply as the Final Season: 11 episodes, broadcast 4 October to 13 December 2025, directed by Naomi Nakayama with Kenji Nagasaki as chief director. It adapts the end of the final war and the manga’s eight-years-later epilogue, closing the main television story nine and a half years after it began.
Then the adaptation did something unusual: it went back for the book-only material. The bonus chapter 431, printed exclusively in volume 42, was adapted as a bonus television special that premiered on 2 May 2026. With it, the anime’s count stands at 170 regular episodes plus the special, and nothing of Horikoshi’s main story remains unadapted.

THE RUN
Autumn 2025The shape
Eleven episodes: the shortest season of the eight, built as a single movement, the war’s end and the epilogue in one breath.
The directors
Naomi Nakayama, on the series since season 7, directs; Nagasaki supervises as chief director. The staff across the decade is unusually continuous, and the finale keeps it that way.
The close
13 December 2025: the last regular episode. The franchise’s flagship screen story ends inside the same calendar stretch as the Vigilantes anime’s second season.
THE SPECIAL
2 May 2026Chapter 431, animated
The special adapts “More,” the epilogue chapter that exists only in the final tankobon: an anime episode whose source is a single book edition.
Why it matters
It completes the adaptation record. Manga, book-only pages, spin-off: everything in the main line has now been animated exactly once, in order.
The era’s end
Between the final season, the Vigilantes conclusion, and this special, the screen franchise wound down across a single seven-month span, deliberately and in sequence.
