What is in My Hero Academia volume 42?

The only volume with pages the magazine never printed.

Volume 42, I Am Here, was released by Shueisha on 4 December 2024. It collects chapters 423 to 430, the end of the final war and the eight-years-later epilogue, and then keeps going: 38 pages of new content that take place after the original ending, drawn for the book.

The centrepiece is a bonus chapter numbered 431, “More.” Because it exists only in this volume, first printings and ordinary copies alike carry it, and it matters to the adaptation record too: the chapter was animated as a bonus television special that premiered on 2 May 2026, after the final season had closed. Viz published the English volume 42 on 21 October 2025, completing the English shelf.

The contents
Chapters 423 to 430 plus 431. The numbering is the tell: every magazine chapter is accounted for, and the book adds one the magazine never had.

WHY IT MATTERS

The collector’s angle
Only in the book
Chapter 431 cannot be read in the magazine, the simulpub, or the chapter apps. The tankobon is the sole first edition of the true ending’s coda.
The special
The May 2026 television special adapts chapter 431, which makes volume 42 the rare final volume whose exclusive pages were important enough to animate separately.
The bookend
Horikoshi closed the design circle himself: volume 42’s yellow field and crowd answer volume 1’s, ten years apart.
