When did My Hero Academia end?

5 August 2024, after an epilogue longer than the victory it followed.

The final chapter of My Hero Academia, chapter 430, ran in Weekly Shonen Jump on 5 August 2024, ten years and one month after the first. Shueisha announced the countdown in June 2024, in the magazine’s 27th issue: five chapters left.

The road there was public for years. At Jump Festa in December 2021 Horikoshi said the manga would end within a year if things went smoothly; in October 2022 he took the deadline back and gave the final arc the room it needed. When the end did come, he refused the usual short landing: Shueisha announced in June 2024 that the story had entered its “epilogue” with chapter 424, and Horikoshi wrote that this was not a manga that ends the moment the villain falls. The collected finale, with its extra pages, is documented on the volume 42 page.

2021 to 2024

Jump Festa ’22

December 2021: “if things go smoothly, the manga will meet its goal to end in one year.” He joked the same letter might be read again the next year. It nearly was.

The reprieve

October 2022: the one-year plan is withdrawn. The final arc takes two more years, and the author comments in volume 34 that he can finally see the goal in sight.

Five chapters

June 2024: the announcement lands with chapter 424 and the epilogue label. The last chapter, titled simply “My Hero Academia,” runs 5 August 2024.

4 December 2024: the final volume adds 38 pages of new content after chapter 430, including the book-only chapter 431.

The anime follows

The eighth and final television season aired October to December 2025, and the bonus chapter was adapted as a TV special in May 2026. The adaptation now ends where the book does.

The shelf closes

With the English volume 42 out in October 2025 and a final box set announced, the publishing story of the manga is complete in both languages.
