What are My Hero Academia: Smash!! and Team-Up Missions?

One comedy, one anthology: the franchise drawn by other hands.

Two further manga grew on the side of the main series. My Hero Academia: Smash!!, by Hirofumi Neda, is a four-panel-style comedy that ran on Shonen Jump+ from November 2015 to November 2017 and collected five volumes: the cast redrawn small and silly, retelling and riffing on the early story. Viz published all five in English.

Team-Up Missions, by Yoko Akiyama, is the long companion piece: a prologue in Jump GIGA in July 2019, then Saikyo Jump from August 2019 to 4 January 2025. Its premise is a school program that pairs students with pro heroes and each other in combinations the main series never had room for. Akiyama also drew the two-part Deku & Bakugo: Rising in 2018, and her hand is all over the franchise’s booklet manga, documented on the bonus manga page.

My Hero Academia Smash volume 1 cover
My Hero Academia: Smash!!, Vol. 1
Hirofumi Neda’s four-panel gag spin-off, volume 1 (2016). Together with Team-Up Missions it anchors the spin-off shelf.

SMASH!!

The comedy · 2015 to 2017
The pitch
The main story retold as gag manga: chibi cast, school-life jokes, and the early arcs compressed into punchlines. It began while the anime was still a rumour.
The books
Five volumes, Jump Comics+, all in English from Viz. A finished, self-contained shelf beside volume 12 of the main run.
The author
Hirofumi Neda, who had assisted Horikoshi: the comedy is an insider’s parody, drawn by someone who had inked the real thing.

TEAM-UP MISSIONS

The anthology · 2019 to 2025
The pitch
A U.A. program sends students out in mixed teams: dream pairings, pro-hero mentors, and one-off missions in a lighter register.
The run
Saikyo Jump, August 2019 to January 2025: it outlived its sister spin-offs and ended the same winter the main anime began its final season. Licensed in English by Viz.
The artist’s other work
Yoko Akiyama also drew Deku & Bakugo: Rising (Weekly Shonen Jump, 2018) and the booklet one-shots for two of the films. The franchise’s second house style is largely hers.
