The Kingdom Hearts Version Tree
Kingdom Hearts has never been a series of games so much as a series of versions. Between 2002 and 2022 Square Enix released thirteen distinct titles, and nearly all of them exist in two forms: the original, and the expanded, remade, filmed, or collected edition that followed it. This page is the map of the whole tree, trunk by trunk, with the deep pages linked from each branch.
The pattern was set by the first game. Kingdom Hearts launched in Japan on March 28, 2002; the American release that September carried extra bosses Japan never had; so in December 2002 Japan re-imported its own game as Final Mix, bigger again. That loop, West adds, Japan re-adds, the West waits a decade, repeated until the HD collections finally flattened it in 2013.
Two branches break the pattern honestly. The DS games were demoted to films inside the collections rather than remade, and one announced branch, Missing-Link, was cancelled before it ever shipped. Both are recorded on the tree, because a version history that only lists successes is marketing, not documentation.

Every later branch on this page descends from the commercial discovery inside these two boxes: a finished game could be sold again, expanded, to the same audience, if the expansion was real.
