What are the My Hero Academia movies?

Four films, and four small books that were never sold at all.

The franchise made four theatrical films, all animated by Bones: Two Heroes (3 August 2018, after a world premiere at Anime Expo that July), Heroes Rising (20 December 2019), World Heroes’ Mission (6 August 2021), and You’re Next (2 August 2024), each opening in North America within the season. Horikoshi supervised the line and contributed original characters and story material to each.

The films’ collector signature is the attendee booklet: for each premiere, the first wave of Japanese cinemagoers (a million for the first three films, a million and a half for the fourth) received an exclusive manga volume, Vol. 0, Vol. R, Vol. W, and Vol. Next, containing a Horikoshi one-shot. They were never sold in shops. Their contents are censused on the bonus manga page; each film also received a one-volume manga adaptation and an Anri Yoshi novel.

THE FOUR FILMS

2018 to 2024
Two Heroes (2018)
I-Island, and All Might’s American past. The film that revealed the franchise could carry a summer tentpole; booklet: Vol. 0, Origin.
Heroes Rising (2019)
Class 1-A alone on a remote island, and the closest the films come to the main story’s stakes. Booklet: Vol. R, with the villains’ one-shot.
World Heroes’ Mission (2021)
The global mission film, three heroes in three countries. Booklet: Vol. W, a million copies for the first audiences.

THE FOURTH, AND THE PAPER

2024 and after
You’re Next (2024)
2 August 2024, the weekend before the manga’s final chapter: a false All Might in a ruined Italy. Booklet: Vol. Next, 1.5 million copies.
The paper trail
Every film exists three times on paper: the attendee booklet, the Homesha manga adaptation, and the prose novel. The booklets are the rarest of the three because they were only ever given away.
In English
Viz published the booklets’ one-shots in English across 2018 to 2024, the only route to them outside Japan’s opening weekends.
