What Games Are Bundled Inside Tekken 5?

Four arcade games ride inside the fifth: Tekken, Tekken 2, Tekken 3, and, strangely, StarBlade.

A tenth anniversary needs a history section, and Namco put its history on the disc. The PlayStation 2 version of Tekken 5 carries complete arcade versions of the three games that built the series, the first time those arcade originals, as opposed to their PlayStation conversions, could be played at home.

THE BUNDLE

What is on the disc
Tekken, arcade 1994
The original coin op, on Namco System 11 hardware, with its eight starting fighters and sub boss structure intact.
Tekken 2, arcade 1995
The sequel that doubled down on everything: more fighters, more stages, and the modes the PlayStation port would make famous.
Tekken 3, arcade 1997
The System 12 game itself, the same version Namco later built into the PlayStation Classic era of reissues. Its full history has its own page in this wing.
StarBlade, 1991
The odd one out: Namco's arcade rail shooter, included as a playable bonus and as the loading screen game, a piece of the company's wider arcade history.
Why they are there
Namco confirmed the inclusions in January 2005, before launch, explicitly as the tenth anniversary package: the series, whole, on one disc.
Arcade, not PlayStation
These are the arcade builds, not the beloved PlayStation ports. That means no Tekken Force, no Tekken Ball, and no Gon: the coin op originals, exactly as arcades ran them.

WHY IT MATTERED

The archive as a feature

In 2005, legal access to arcade perfect Tekken was not a given; the arcade boards were a decade old and the home story of the series was told by its altered PlayStation conversions. Bundling the originals made Tekken 5 two products at once, the new game and the archive, and reviewers treated the package as exceptional value. The idea stuck: anniversary and legacy editions across the genre now routinely carry their ancestors.
