How do the Japanese and American Halo covers compare?
Japan's Halo box is a famous outlier, a tight visor crop over circuitry where America put the full Chief. The difference survived into the budget editions. By Halo 3, the art had converged completely.

Contemporary reporting flagged the change before release: the Japanese cover would be different from the US and European box. Japan also added its own dressing, the NTSC-J mark and the red content-warning box, and dropped the Bungie logo from the front.
The budget pair
Each region kept its own artPlatinum Hits vs Platinum Collection
Neither budget line switched art. America kept the Chief-centred painting, Japan kept the visor crop, so the Platinum pair differs exactly as much as the standard pair. One provenance note: the Japanese scan shown comes from a not-for-resale variant of the Platinum package; its front carries no such marking, but pixel-identity with the retail box is unverified.
Halo 2 and Halo 3
A steelbook, then convergenceHalo 3
For Halo 2, Japan's documented special object is the Limited Edition steelbook, a brushed-silver case dominated by a blue metallic 2, mirroring the American collector's edition concept with Japanese dressing; the standard Japanese Halo 2 box could not be verified from the sources available, so this page makes no claim about it. By Halo 3 the art had converged: Japan's Platinum Collection reissue of 2013 reuses the same key art again under a green-striped banner.
