The Squaresoft Japan-Only Gallery

Five Super Famicom games Square never sent West, cover first.

In the first half of the 1990s Square built a second catalogue beside the one the West knew: a Mana sequel previewed in Western magazines and then cancelled, an open world SaGa that sold a million copies at home, a tactics game of walking tanks its own publisher kept refusing, an end of the world told in spells the player writes, and a treasure hunt that closed the Super Famicom era. None of the five originals on this shelf was released outside Japan in its era. Their Western boxes do not exist, and this gallery says so tile by tile rather than borrow a remake’s box. The afterlives, fan translations, collections, and remakes that eventually carried some of them West are documented on their history pages. Two shelf mates that did get full Library treatment earlier, Live A Live and Bahamut Lagoon, close the gallery as cross doors.
