The Valkyrie Profile Gallery

A goddess who collects the dead, told five ways: as a deadline, a rebellion, a revenge, an action game, and a port.

The Valkyrie Profile series was created by Masaki Norimoto and Yoshiharu Gotanda, primarily developed by tri-Ace and published first by Enix and then by Square Enix. It is built from elements of Norse mythology: a valkyrie chooses warriors who die in battle and leads them toward the afterlife and Ragnarok. Motoi Sakuraba composed the music for every game on this shelf.

The series had shipped 2.2 million copies by 2016, respectable numbers that never matched its reputation. Critics kept score another way: the first game was voted the 27th best video game of all time in a 2006 Famitsu readers poll. Where Japan and the West dressed the same game differently, both boxes stand side by side below. Every cover is a door to that game's history.
